Easter

Our neighbors are always having parties- we finally got invited to one!! hehehe- we're movin' on up!! movin' on up!! movin' on up!! Anyway the kids had a blast hunting for eggs, jumping in the jumpcastle and jumping on the velcro wall thing- yeah seriously. They had one of those velcro wall things where you put on the velcro suit and get stuck. I even did it. The velcro wasn't strong enough to hold me :(

Easter morning:
Jeebs slept in and missed it. He missed it!!! He was watching "V" and he couldn't fall asleep until 4:30. No, not his wife "V" the tV show, "V". Wouldn't it be sweet if he had stayed up to watch me sleep? (no really, that would be creepy)

I bought the kids these cute little poof ball stuffed animals at Harris Teeter. I first spotted the hedgehog and since Cagey is obsessed with Sonic the hedgehog, I had to. Well, I thought they were so dang cute- they ended up throwing them like balls around the living room and now they sit all alone on the side table in the living room. oh well.

Mistakes

No, this is not a confession of past mistakes...maybe someday, but not this day (what movie??) Okay no, these are my stupid "HI, my name is Vanessa Wagley Nicolaysen" mistakes I have made so far just this week.

1. I would say 'let' Jeebs buy a spider from a grilling place, but I we really don't 'let' eachother do stuff like that- so I'm just gonna say he bought a spider for frying on Saturday. Sooo- we had fried goods 2 days in a row this week and it's only Wednesday. Monday night was fresh fried tortilla chips- he is an expert, almost. Tuesday night was fried chicken scrips and mash. I made the chicken and he fried it- needed more salt and more panko (if you haven't tried putting panko in your flour, try it, yummmmmm) So- weight loss this week- yeah...nevermind.

2. Put Ezra in his stroller while Tates (7) and Cagey (4) 'helped' me wash the Tahoe in their bathing suits. Yeah. Each one wanted to have their turn manning the water hose. Ezra dropped his car that was keeping him happy and preoccupied so I told Cagey to pick it up and give it back to him- it was soapy so Tates wanted to wash it off- Cagey held it up right in front of Ezra and Tates shot the hose right in the direction of the car- Ezra screamed. He had just been shot in the face. I spoke before I thought and Tates felt so bad she started crying. I felt bad, but I didn't cry. I just carry on because I'm Nessa and Nessa does stupid things like this all the time. I finished washing the car with Ezra in one hand- my wet soapy rag in the other.

3. Took the kids to the beach today. In Morehead City I stopped at a red light. I just happened to glance to my right and the driver of the truck next to me was motioning for me to roll down my window. Holy Hannah- I was freaked out, but I rolled the window down just a bit and the guy says to me "Your left tail light is out." Oh thanks- great. I was almost to the beach so I just eased on down the road, trying to hit the brakes as little as possible. I felt like I was walking around with my skirt stuck in my undies and I knew about it, but there was nothing I could do about it. Then we got to the beach and it was 67 degrees. The water was freezing. I didn't think there would be such a temperature difference. In New Bern it was in the 80's- the beach was almost 15-20 degrees cooler. Cagey already had a cough and he was determined to get in the freakin' water. His cough sounds like a fog horn now. Awesome.

as a random side note- I saw so many girls in bikinis at the beach- it must be a pre-req for the beach now that you have a bikini- one pieces...where are ya? Then as they fall into the water they go clutching to their little 3 inches of fabric that are separating them from the rest of the public. Really?? Really? Oh heaven forbid- we see 3 more inches of your body!!!! I mean- seriously cover it up. good grief you're walking around in bandaids for your boozies and a freakin' triangle for your crack!!! that's it!! 3 more inches wouldn't be that much more offensive. seriously- sick of it. cover up!!!!!!!!! I don't care how fabulous your body is- leave it to yourself- I need more fabric separating me from you.ewwww gross.

Stay tuned- I'm sure I'll be able to add to this list- there's still Thursday and Friday left.

bedtime

Is there anything sweeter than bedtime when you tell your kids you love them and they say they love you too? Well, maybe not, but maybe... when your kids tell one another I love you. Just a couple of nights ago, Cagey said to Tates, on his way to bed, "I love you!" and she responded without hesitation, "love you too!" This doesn't happen very often- obviously because I am blogging about it. Every night I go in to kiss Cagey good night after his daddy tucks him in and I ask, "do you want me to sing you a song?" and he always says, "NO!" Okay so that's not so sweet, but I usually sing "Ducks in the pond quack a happy song, mother hen cackles the whole day long..." and on and on. I do it really fast before he can protest too much, but he usually just buries his head in his pillow and I go out thinking, I am a total dork and why does my son hate my songs? :) Taylor, on the other hand, wants me to stay and stay and I could sing as many songs as I like...she just wants to stay awake as long as she can, that girl hates bedtime.

But then, once they're all tucked and kissed and prayed and watered- then I get to relax with Jeebs for a couple of hours before we get in bed. He works on his computer and I usually blog. We watch Glenn Beck and get brainwashed- and we usually have a little no sugar added ice cream, but none for me tonight, thanks- see previous post about the dadgum lemon bars. Anyway- I have no way to post my pics from Easter so that will have to wait and you'll have to enjoy my non-picture posts, I know you do... hehehehehe and I'm out!

BTW- Cagey loves cheese all kinds of cheese- cheddar, pecorino romano, mozzarella, and even asiago (I think)- he won't eat a fruit or a vegetable, but he will eat cheese that tastes like a foot. Amazing. there's hope for the boy still. Note to self: buy more freakin' cheese

Today the lemon bars won...

Maybe it's because it's Easter or maybe because it's General Conference weekend- either way I have eaten wayyyyy too much. I have been taking a freaking sabbatical from my 'diet'. I made lemon bars because I love lemon bars and they are perfect for Easter and General Conference. OH my gosh- these lemon bars were AWESOME...I wanted to roll around on the floor and make out with these lemon bars. I didn't, but I ate almost half the pan- with help from Jeebs of course. We are both sick!!! Diet starts MONDAY!!!!! No really, the immovable mocking of the scale has got to STOP! (this is the recipe I used :)http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/zesty-lemon-bars

Also- my computer died. I have no way to upload my pictures. argh.
And also- We made cagey throw up by forcing his mouth open to drop in some mucinex quick melts. It was brown... speckled with easter candy coated shells and...I caught every last drop of it. YESSSSSS!! easy clean up when it's all in your hands.

last bit of Utah

My brother's dog, Veda, loved Ezra. I think she thought he was her puppy. Every time I put him down she was right there to get herself a wet lickery kiss. what movie? 50 pts and no, Jeebs you can't play.

SNOWBOARDING!!!

I've been water skiing since I was- I think 7 or 8. I've never snow skied or snowboarded. I told Jeebs when we were dating that if he could get up on 1 ski I would go snowboarding with him. He got up on 2, but not 1- not good enough :) I regret not going with him then- before my body was broken from pushing 3 children from my loins. I might try next time though- it looked fun.

Tates warming up.

Jeebs, Tates and Uncle Tom headed up the bunny slope.

Uncle Tom- he got it the first time down. Thank heavens for Uncle Tom- after Cagey decided he wanted to go too and Ezra decided he just wanted nothing to do with snowboarding he took Taylor up the lift and stayed with her as she went down. Actually- he said he went about half way down with her and then said see ya later Taylor. Thanks Tom! :)

You see those 2 horizontal lumps? That's Jeebs and Uncle Tom- and Tates in front of Jeebs where you can't really see her.

Cagey did his signature "I don't want to do it" then 20 minutes later after all the gear had been rented and lift passes bought, " actually, I want to do it". I got him his boots while struggling with Ezra and camera, and my large annoying saddlebag I call a purse- just as I was sending hate out towards Jeebs he came in and saved me. I love Jeebs- he always feels the hate!! lol

Jeebs and Cagey getting on the lift- this is where I exited. Ezra was DONE- and so were my arms. They were shaking from standing there trying to hold him and get pictures at the same time.
Done! snowboarding with daddy- check!

Faith, toenails and Cheez-it overload

When we landed in Salt Lake I was so excited to be on the ground safe and sound. As me and Tates were walking into the airport I said "Yay, we made it- we're on the ground, we didn't crash!" Tates looked at me very put out and said, "Mommy, remember I said a prayer last night and asked Heavenly Father to help us not crash!" Yes I remembered. This is why we should be as little children- faith.

The whole time I was walking around the airports I had on my comfortable cute pink flats. Seriously, the cutest most comfortable shoes ever. Comfortable when my toenails are a normal length that is. But, when I'm sporting talons- not so much. I could see the outline of my toenails at the tops of my shoes- toes were hurting. I finally clipped them today- hallelujah! My shoes and my dogs will breath easier.

Both flights to Utah were great- went off without a hitch. The flight back, however, was torture. We had to fly from SLC to Atlanta- it's just under 4 hours- blagh. There was wind like you wouldn't believe in SLC. We took off and I have never been more scared and sick on a flight in my life. I held onto both of my children- Taylor told me to quit squeezing her hand- Cagey said nothing. It felt like we were floating and then being pressed down on- over and over and over again. Cagey finally said quietly, "we shouldn't have gotten on this plane!" Truer words were never spoken. The seatbelt light was on most of the flight and the flight attendants were mostly in their seats as well. Just as we were nearing the end- and we had all avoided using the air sick bags- EZRA... pukes his cheez-its all down my arm- and all over Cagey. Cagey started crying and we all smelled like puke. Note to self- too much cheez-it sedation will end in the opposite of sedation...
